Fucecchio marsh

Un’affascinante oasi di biodiversità

Located a short distance from the 5-star Montecatini Palace & Spa hotel, the Fucecchio Marsh represents a true natural jewel.

One of the most fascinating wetlands in Italy, the Fucecchio Marshes covers more than 1,800 hectares between Pistoia and Florence, offering a perfect balance of nature, biodiversity and history: the ideal destination for those who want an immersive experience in contact with the land.
Within the Fucecchio Marshes there is a rich variety of flora and fauna, making it a place of great interest for nature and photography lovers: herons, egrets, cormorants, cranes and black storks, many different species of waterfowl that find a perfect stopover and nesting location here.

A must-visit destination for birdwatchers, where you can admire the scenic migrations of flocks in flight, and walk along ancient paths through the greenery among the gore, small canals built to regulate water.
The Fucecchio Marsh has many characteristic plants: from royal fern to large sedge, from frog bite to otricolaria, confirming it as a naturalistically interesting and varied area.

Finally, within the Marsh are echoes of evidence related to the great Medici and Lorraine families: the canals and port system, the Medici bridge at Cappiano, the Capannone farm complex and the tobacco dryers: striking examples of original industrial architecture.

If you wish to discover the Fucecchio Marshes there are engaging guided tours and educational workshops perfect for all ages.
